Listen: Lay Up by Fana Hues
I am so curious: how is your workplace responding to Biden’s new holiday drop? So far, I’ve heard that Pinterest has a last-minute day off and a lot of smaller companies are sort of winging it. I think Alisha Sonnier said it best: “Not sure how to process non-Black middle and upper class people getting Juneteenth off, while Black poor and working class people don’t.”
Let me know what’s happening in your work life today, and if you’ve carved out your own holiday in spite of whatever your bosses are doing. If that’s the case, you might be in the right headspace for Fana Hues’ “Lay Up” and its video following a girls’ trip in North Carolina. Score 💯 for joy.
It’s at least an all right day at Amazon
While we’re in the spirit of progress, I’d like to request that we all sign this petition, “Do Not Allow Jeff Bezos To Return To Earth.” As of writing, it has 16,841 signatures of a necessary 25,000. We can do this.

Legitimately though, apparently you can get your health care from Amazon now? I just learned that they’ve got a program for employees where you can schedule virtual visits, prescription delivery, and in-person primary care with the option for HOUSE CALLS. “Starting Wednesday,” they say, “Amazon Care is available to serve other Washington-based companies,” which inevitably means that in approximately one year it’ll also be a public offering that’s too cheap to deny and whoops now Amazon owns your health records, too. That was fast.
Daaaaaaave
Let’s all hear it for Dave Eggers, who is taking a stand and not selling his new hardcover on Amazon. The paperback will still be on there, but if you want to sit with the big kids, you gotta give your dollars to a real, live bookstore. Brave.
